14 days ago amidst my struggle a close friend asked me a beautiful and simple question – What do you want more? You see, I have an addiction to coca-cola and for years I’ve struggled to kick the habit.
If I’m feeling excited about something, I want a Coke.
If I’m feeling anxious, I want a Coke.
If I’m feeling angry or stressed, I want a Coke.
I’ve used it both as a reward and as a punishment to myself.
But, this single question – What do you want more? – is reframing all of my perspectives and increasing my will power.
It’s been 21 days since I’ve had a Coke – ok minus a 12 oz. slip-up earlier this week when I convinced myself it was OK, but I’m still proud of my progress. They say it takes 21 days to build or break a habit.
What I want more than Coke is a healthy lifestyle. I want to be proud of my choices. I want to feel good. I may crave Coke, but I want all of these things MORE than I want a Coke.
So, I want to give you the gift of this question today. What do you want more?
