There is a reason why flight attendants say to put your own oxygen mask on first.

Simply put, you’ll die. You may have mere seconds when the aircraft pressure fails.

Proverbially, this same thing will happen to a leader.

That’s right – I’m talking about self-care.

Leaders can get so focused supporting others they easily put themselves last.

The impacts are disastrous.

Stress.

Anxiety.

Overwhelm.

Overworked.

Stranger to your kids and family.

It’s madness!

Self-care takes intentionality and yes….I’m going to say it, DISCIPLINE! It won’t happen on its own.

Here are some basic fundamentals to prioritize every day.

1. Your Mind – Your mind is connected to your brain, your brain to your heart and your heart to every single cell in your body. By controlling the direction of your mind, you control the direction of your life.

2. Your Heart – Connection through relationships, friendships, love and intimacy help free your mind up to focus on what’s most important.

3. Your Body – Take care of it every day. Eat well, sleep well, exercise well. Treat it like a temple, not a tent.

This will certainly take intentionality, but the payoff is 100% worth it.
